Arise, Sir Henry

Surely Henry Cecil's name will appear in the new year's honours list after that remarkable Oaks win?

Great to see Super Ted win his first Classic, too. Ted's long been massively popular in this stable, having ridden Jack Dawson and My Obsession, to name but two, to victory for John. He's also among the small band of jockeys to have worn my woefully under-employed colours, having finished second and third on Jolizero last year. I'm sure, along with his Oaks win, Ted is also immensely proud of being in the same élite club as Mr Oliver Marsh, most frequent wearer of the light blue and chocolate hoops.

And talking of, er, élite clubs, where have you been taking our Martha, Glen? I think we'll need to have words if your choice of date venue does not improve swiftly. Keep away from those pearly gates.

I have visited Cartmel twice. It seems to attract crowds to rival the big festivals - Ascot,York,Glastonbury etc.It is worthwhile hopping out of the course to visit the village shop which sells the famous sticky toffee pudding which resembles how the going can turn under the "wood " side of the course. The said pudding goes down a treat with a gin and night nurse.
