Sunday started with the great news that Desiree had safely delivered a Sulamani colt at 1.30am. No pics yet but I'm told he's a bay with a white star, just like his dad. Can't wait to see him on Wednesday and I've already reserved his name, Oscar Bernadotte, with Weatherbys.John gave me the book Désirée by Anne-Marie Selinko, which is the fictitious diary of Désirée Clary, the first fiancée of Naopleon Bonaparte. It's a fascinating read, starting from when Napoleon was a little-known General just after the French Revolution and his subsequent rise to power and megalomania. After losing Napoleon to Josephine, Désirée ends up marrying Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, who subsequently becomes the King of Sweden, and their first son was called Oscar.
As our yearling intake from the sales in recent years has mostly involved fillies, it will be fun to have Desiree's boy and Minnie's Mystery's Largesse colt arrive here together next year. Stand by for many photos after out trip to Batsford Stud on Wednesday.

Good to hear Paula and Simon happy in Scotland. Looks like a visit to the Scottish highlands (is that where you both are?) is a given.
A beautiful quiet peaceful country.
That is very ominous: Dickie referring to Paula's and Simon's part of the world as "a beautiful quiet peaceful country" while he plans a visit. It puts me in mind of the reaction of Herbert Lom in one of the Pink Panther films when he hears that Inspector Clouseau is to head to Gstaad on the trail of the Phantom: "Gstaad. Today: a paradise on the Swiss Alps. Tomorrow: a waste-land".

Dickie, you are a brahma. Old age is obviously causing you to lose your mind. Kate's daughter Winkie is now nearly old enough for you to be asking her out.
